MAGIC OF COLOURS

Psychology as a discipline has always excited people and with changing times, it has developed into something that can be seen in our daily lives. Human mind is very complex and to comprehend it fully is impossible. One or two decades ago, who must have thought that even colors in the environment can affect human behavior? Color psychology is a relatively new concept and it basically refers to the scientific study of the influence and effect of colors on human behavior and feelings. We may have subjective opinions about the symbolism and meanings attached to different colors. However, some color effects are universal. Colors in the red spectrum like red, orange and yellow are said warm colors whereas, the blue spectrum colors like green, blue and purple are known as cool colors. Warm colors are said to evoke feelings of love, anger while, cool colors symbolize feelings of sadness, melancholy and tranquility. Color therapy that is chromotherapy has its origin in ancient Egyptian and Chinese cultures. In this primordial treatment, red was used to stimulate organs, yellow to purify blood, blue to treat pain and indigo to alleviate skin problems. Colors and their magic continue to baffle humans and science has continued to demystify it. However, there are some hidden mysteries in the universe that are unknown now and would remain unknown till the end. Such is the magic of colors. We also tend to associate certain colors with gender differences. For example: - Blue has always been seen as the color for boys and girls have been allied with pink. These relations have evolved over time because they certainly affect the genders in some way or the other. Thus, there are many examples that support the significance of colors in our lives. As color psychology is a new subject, a lot of exploration can be done on it. There are many more startling revelations to be revealed which are now hidden in the dark. We can only hope that they contribute in the well being of the society.
